So I'm going for something a tad different this week. Usually (ok yeah I've only joined in TQ once before) the idea is to post a good quote or passage from your current read. Cool. Except my current read isn't exactly my favourite book I've ever read. I loathe insta-love. And that is what this book is riding on. So, obviously, we're not going to be best friends.
Now first off let's clarify what I categorise as insta-love. Basically, for me, instal-love is any romantic connection that makes a giant leap from enemies, friends, acquaintances, strangers etc. to oh-my-god-I-can't-live-without-you-let-me-have-your-babies-I-never-want-to-be-apart-from-you-as-long-as-we-both-shall-live-kinda-love. So this first quote is a whole 71 pages deep into the novel. So far, Eleanor & Park have had all of three or four stilted bus ride conversations. Their entire friendship, if we'll call it that, exists on the bus. But still, I digress, here we are. (71 pages in):
He didn't look up. He wound the scarf around his fingers until her hand was hanging in the space between them.
Then he slid the silk and his fingers into her open palm.
And Eleanor disintegrated.
"I don't like you, Park," she said, sounding for a second like she actually meant it. "I..." - her voice nearly disappeared - "think I live for you."C
