So many books, so little time. As an english major I often don't get much time to read the books I want to read. I am usually a bit late to the party when it comes to hyped books. Here is a list of ten books that have attracted a lot of attention, be it positive or negative. Credit to the girls at The Broke and the Bookish for creating this great meme!
1. The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
I have no idea how, but any mention of this series has escaped my attention until quite recently. From the synopsis and reviews I must say I am very excited to read this one, and I hope it lives up to all the hype! This series is definitely on my TBR list: I have already ordered the first book in the series, Cinder. Cannot wait till it arrives!!
2. Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas
This is another one that I have already ordered. Cannot wait to read this series. Everything I have heard is so positive, which worries me. Badass female protagonist that actually has emotions?!?! YAASS PLEASE!! It just ... you know when you go and see a movie, and you are expecting so many amazing things because it has been so hyped, and it just leaves you feeling ... bleh. Underwhelmed. Fingers crossed this one turns out to be a gem. Please please please!!
3. Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan
This is a YA series that it feels like almost everybody has read but me! I haven't even seen the movies, but they do look interesting. Can't really say I am biting the bit to get my hands on it though.
4. Divergent series by Veronica Roth
I tried reading the first novel of this series, and I just couldn't get into it. It felt as if it was trying to fill the void left by The Hunger Games, without any of the quality or substance of The Hunger Games. Fighting words, I know. But this series just really did not do it for me. I have not read it all, and I definitely won't be reading it either.
5. His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman
After studying another Pullman novel, I Was a Rat!, this series has definitely been bumped further up my TBR list. I vaguely remember a movie a few years back, which thank goodness I never watched. I much prefer to read a book before seeing a movie adaptation.
6. A Court of Thorns of Roses by Sarah J Maas
I love fairytale retellings, especially when they add something new. This novel sounds so exciting, a mix of fairies and Beauty and the Beast, it sounds absolutely divine. Also, the second Maas books to show up in this list. Seriously, how had I not heard of her before a few weeks ago?!
7. The Giver by Lois Lowry
I feel awful admitting this, but I watched part of the movie adaptation and it was awful. It was so bad I don't think I want to go near the book that inspired it. Have you read it? What are your thoughts?
8. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
I know. Shock horror. I saw the movie, does that count? :P
9. The Selection by Kiera Cass
This dystopian series is seriously hyped up. It does have an interesting premise. I'm just not so sure it is something I am interested in reading.
10. Delirium by Lauren Oliver
Sigh. Another dystopian Series. I don't know, sometimes I feel like when you miss out on the excitement of a new trend when it is current you are forced to approach it from another perspective, and in this case, from one overrun by a flood of dystopian fiction on the heels of the success of The Hunger Games. Am I being prematurely judgemental? Probably. Not sure if I would be bothered to read this series though.
What are your thoughts on this list? Have you read any of these titles? When a book or series attracts a lot of attention does it make you more or less likely to read it?
Would love to hear your opinions!!
