So I am taking a break from the Made Me Read It Readathon this lovely Friday evening to present to you another Flashback Friday, where I basically dredge up an old favourite that you may or may not have heard about, that I feel deserves a bit of renewed appreciation and love.

The Quickening is a fast paced fantasy series that follows Wyl Thirsk, the newly minted General of Morgravia, as he struggles to deal with the 'gift' bestowed upon him by a young witch named Myrren moments before her death. The gift prevents Wyl from dying, instead, his soul inhabits the body of the person who tried to kill him so that he will live on. This leads to some heart wrenching, terrible, and at times hilarious, situations as Wyl is set onto a path that cannot end until the Gift has run its course.
I highly recommend this to those who enjoy fantasy novels: there are enough twists and turns to keep you enthralled until the last chapter. I'm usually not a fan of "This amazing series meets this much loved series" descriptors, but Prince Celimus would give Joffrey a run for his money any day. Also, there is a mountain King who would most definitely be played by Chris Hemsworth if this were a movie. Just sayin'. This was one of the first fantasy series I read that sucked me in from the get go.
Have you read this series? If you have, what did you think of it?
